InfrastructureDG completed the design of US Highway 18 for the SDDOT from the east ramps of Interstate 29 to the west edge of Canton, SD. InfrastructureDG’s approach to design involved developing four geometric alternatives allowing us to begin the stakeholder conversations and identify constraints. These constraints drove refinement of the alternatives. By completing alternatives and meeting with property owners before identifying the final alignment, we could utilize pros and cons from the meetings to determine a preferred alignment to be used for final design plans. The final highway design elements included a divided four-lane section with shoulders, a 24 ft. raised median, and an overall 200 ft. right-of-way corridor.
